Theory and Design Methods of Geosynthetic Reinforced Basal Embankment on Soft Soil Foundation

Abstract: The mechanism, design theory and methods of basal reinforced embankment on soft soil foundation are researched. The characteristics of basal reinforced embankment are presented, the achievements and engineering practices are summarized. Furthermore, the influences of the following factors, including foundation consolidation, foundation’s strength increment along depth, reinforcement’s creep behavior, and soft sensitive clay, on the design of basal reinforced embankment are analyzed. The long-term stability and settlement of reinforced embankment on soft foundation need further research. The research in this paper is expected to provide reference for the theory and engineering application of basal reinforced embankments.
