Abstract

Centrifugal modeling technique was employed to study the dynamic earthquake response of free-field in soft soil. Three sets of earthquake input motions with different intensities were applied in the tests. Meanwhile, a laminar box was used to consider the flexible boundary during earthquakes. The earthquake responses of foundation soil were observed and presented. The results indicated that the performance of ground (lateral displacement and settlement) depended on the intensities of the excitation motions distinctively. A stronger earthquake leads to larger exact acceleration value. However, the acceleration amplification effect is reduced especially at the ground surface.
