Abstract

The basic information of Ma’anshan reach of Yangtze River and  its short-term river evolution characteristics and the existing river regulation projects are summarized. Based on the current river regime and the bank collapse in recent years, major problems in the river reach are pointed out, and river regulation measures to be taken in the next stage are discussed in light of the river regulation planning. Research results show that the river regime adjustment projects are key points for the river regulation, and the top priority is to bring forward specific engineering schemes through mathematical modeling and physical modeling tests. It’s suggested that diversion works around Xinhekou on the left bank, and  plugging works in the string trench between the upper and lower Hejiazhou and Xintan sandbars should be taken as main schemes, with chamfering projects at the tail of Jiangxinzhou sandbar as auxiliary works. Due to the urgency and effectiveness of these works, it is strongly suggested that relevant government agencies should conduct preliminary works as soon as possible to help implement the regulation projects at an early date to stabilize the river channel.
