As the theory and method to study the catastrophic phenomenon, catastrophe theory provided excellent approaches and tools for the stability analysis and evaluation of gravity dam. On the basis of  dam safety  deformation monitoring data, a cusp catastrophe monitoring model of gravity dam stability was established with the dam strain aging  component as the state variable of dam system evolution.
